A Soldier's Life

The stars are out for me, and the sun out for you
Your day is just starting, and mine is almost through

I keep praying that you're safe, I can't wait to see your face
I know that this time is rough, please come home to us

Got your boots laced up tight, here you are ready to fight

I will wear a small poppy, just as red as it can be

Your hands saved my life, your courage showed the way
You laid down your life for me, so I can live free today

I love, cherish, and live this sweet way of life
But I know now that it's one that comes with a price

Across the blue sea and into the hot desert sand
Going to some awful, Godforsaken, foreign land

You don't know the people, you see just a face
You want to serve your tour and leave this place

ACU's, one dirty Humvee, I can't imagine all you've seen
It really wasn't that long ago you were just a teen

You act very humble and pretend not to care
But I know the real Colby is hiding in there
