Chapter 7

Soon after Sam left, I was too scared to go back in the room, so I moved on. I headed down the stairs and into the kitchen. It was painted a pretty yellow pastel color. It had a small table set up with two huge chairs. The China had been set up on top of a white lace tablecloth. The rest of the kitchen was set up like a normal kitchen would be, maybe in the late 1800's.  I know that somewhere around here, in the kitchen, there is a trap door that leads to the cellar. The old drawing plans to this house show old tunnels that aren't finished in the basement. I start to debate weather I should go down there alone or wait for one of others.
I gave in and decided to go down alone. I had to move the kitchen table and slide back a rug, to get to the door. There were no stairs down there, and if I had to jump, I didn't know how far the fall would be. I took the chance anyway and jumped. It wasn't too long before I was on my knees. As I stood up I started to cough, from all the dust and dirt flying around. I realized that the whole cellar was nothing but dirt floors. I grabbed my flashlight and clicked it on. I shone it up to the hole where I jumped. I guessed it was about a 7-foot jump. Then I realized I had a bigger problem, I had no way to get back up.
"All well, it doesn't matter now, I am stuck." I mumbled under my breath. I started to wave my flashlight around in the tunnel. It was long and narrow. The air was stale and cold, and it was musty. I started down the narrow pathway looking for anything. After about 5 steps, I stopped. I spun to my right and shone my light towards the wall. It was the first tunnel. I decided to check it out first. I started to walk down the tunnel, it wasn't narrow at all, it was wide and it wasn't as cold in here. I felt along most of my way with my hands. The walls were pure solid concrete. I kept the same pace, and ran my left hand down the wall. I stopped when I hit something. Whatever it was was long and thin like a wire. I grabbed a hold of it and traced it down the wall. At the end of the hall my hand hit a cold little metal box. A light switch! I flicked it on, and the entire portion of the cellar I was in, lit up. Ahead of me, there could me miles of tunnel, behind me, it was still pure darkness.
I wanted to keep going down this way, so I pulled out orange duct tape and marked an "x" on the wall. As the tunnel continued, so did my mark. I kept count in my head as I put each "x" on the wall, after about 45 of them; I thought maybe I went to far.  I turned around to head back the way I came from. I started to look for the marks I had made, but when I started to look, they were gone. Every last one of them was gone. There was no trace of them anywhere. Then I decided I was really scared. Someone really didn't want me to get out of here. Then I remembered the lights, only half of them lit up. If I remember I didn't go into any dark places, so if I follow the lights back to the switch, I will get back to the main tunnel.
As I start to push my way back through the cobwebs and dust, I here a faint moaning noise coming from the main tunnel. Now I know I'm close. I finally made it back to the main entrance, when the moaning stopped. I waited to see if it would pick back up again, but it was silent. I headed in the direction the noises were coming from. It felt like the deeper I got into the tunnel, the darker and colder it became. I don't know if it is me, but I feel like someone is following me. Maybe I'm just being paranoid. I keep going wondering if this will ever end. Finally I ran into something. It was hard, but not solid. It wasn't thick, nor is it thin. Another light switch, I  flip it on just to find out what I have ran too is a wooden door.
